Hoth is Melting...

My good friends…

The galactic liberal media is at it again… Now they are trying to tell us that Hoth is melting, well that's just plain silly!  I have been thinking on this for the last week or so.  I can’t not say anything at this point.  The fact remains that I am not going to change your mind on this election.  You’re either for one or the other, and most, are not really impressed with either candidate and will be voting for whom they think is the lesser of two evils.  Both are choices that I think we could have done better with.

With that being said, I have some things to say about it.

An Open Letter to the Supporters of Mr. Donald Trump.

Dear Supporters of Mr. Trump.

I accept the fact that I will not change your mind on who you will be voting for in this coming election.  I am glad that we live in a country where we all have the ability to voice our opinion of who we want to be the leader of this great nation.  But, in light of a few things that have been reveled in the last two weeks, I thought it best to address you in this manner.

I have watched a lot of the mud slinging that has become the focus o f this election.  Neither side is innocent of this.  But, as a victim of sexual assault, I thought it best to take the time to talk to you about what you say is ok behavior by this man.  First and foremost, there is more sexual assault that goes on then is ever reported.  I would venture to say that the majority of the people that I know, have had some kind of incident that has scarred them for life in this regard.  Most will never voice this as it does something to you mentally.  It makes you feel lost and insecure and scared of everything.  You become scared of the people who look like the person who hurt you.

For some men and women, it is so violent and horrifying that they never heal from it.  And the scar from that wound is deep and there are moments when it feels like someone is pouring salt on it.  A few months ago, we as a nation, were horrified that one Brock Turner could have such a lenient sentence for raping a girl who was unconscious behind a dumpster while at a party on the campus of Stanford.  We were even more outraged that he was released from jail, not prison, early and sent home to his parents.  I am sure Mr. Turner will never forgot this one act, but then again, neither will the woman who was raped.  We practically crucified Mr. Bill Cosby for sexually assaulting many women, some of whom he had drugged, when it was brought to light, some of them 30 years after the incident.  I, of course was very upset that this was a man whom I had grown up thinking was the nicest of men who loved his wife and to find that he did this, was very upsetting.  Upsetting to the point of rage.  I kept thinking that a man who uses his name to coerce women into sex, has got some serious problems.  Either that, or he’s just an asshole.  For a nation so outraged that this continues, when the charges are against your candidate for president, you seem to brush it off as these women just want attention and why did it take so long for them to come forward.  The media is rigging the campaign against Mr. Trump.  I have seen a photo of a woman who has a shirt that said, “He can grab my” with an arrow pointing down.  I am so furious with this!! How can so many be so outraged and then in the same summer shame women for speaking out against it.  I am lost with it.  I am horrified by the fact that so many just dismiss this behavior.  It was just locker room banter I have heard.  Nope.  Doesn’t fly with me.

I joke about many things in life.  How I dress, my kids, everything.  I DO NOT JOKE ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT OR RAPE!!!  It is by far the worst thing to have to go through, and to casually toss it aside as think well, they are out for money, but make a huge deal out of Brock Turner, or Bill Cosby, I would have to say that you have become a nation of accusing  hypocrites.  Earlier this year, there was a huge uproar after the issue of transgender persons wanting to use the restroom of their identity.  So many were scared that transgender is synomimous with the word pervert that there was a big to problem with the idea of letting this happen.  People were banning Target saying they are allowing perverts into the restroom while their wives and daughters are trying to pee… News flash kids, transgender people who use the restroom, have to pee as well and would rather check their makeup than check out your family.  This kind of reaction is strange since now, you’re defending a man who brags about ‘grabbing her by the pussy’.  Is it ok because he’s straight?  Or is it ok because he’s running for president, which is utterly deplorable and despicable and needs to stop!  Like, right the fuck now!  You cannot say how terrible it is for one person to do this, but, other people it’s ok.  It is most certainly not ok!

What really bothered me, even more than the man saying this, was how people I know and love, think it’s ok to have that kind of banter.  I know lots of men who have lots of kinds of conversations and they can range from highly intelligent to very raunchy.  I find it disgusting that so many look at it like, it only happened once, and it’s just talk.  It’s not.  It’s likely it wasn’t the first time, nor has it been the last.  We have raunchy conversations with our friends, but, to talk about it as if it’s ok to treat women like this, is most offensive.  I have seen over and over the posts on Facebook about how women look at what he says and thinks it’s ok because it was a long time ago.

And then, in the last week, I have seen things on social media about how if only men were allowed to vote then Mr. Trump would mostly definitely win the election, with the polls being opposite that if only women could vote Hilary would win.  There have been scads of women saying they would give up their right to vote to get him into office.  I am shocked that they would even suggest this.  #repelthe19th is the handle it goes by…. HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST YOUR SENSES???!!!! After all that we have had to go through to get to vote, have a job, hold office, be unmarried and self supporting, there are women who want to take that right away from me…  They want to take my RIGHT, which was fought for with blood and sweat and tears, and take it away.  Susan B. Anthony was beaten by police for trying to vote.  Women’s suffrage was more than voting… it was giving us rights to be able to share our opinion and chose our representatives.  Women started to hold office after that, it gave us a voice.  I can’t imagine wanting to go backwards.  I’m so confused by the ones who think it would be ok to take away my rights.

When I first heard of Mr. Trump running for the highest office in the country, I was intrigued.  The business man who wants to run in politics reminded me of Mr. Ross Perot.  Mr. Ross Perot was a funny looking man who no one took seriously.  I think it was his ears.  He has some great ideas and I really liked him.  However, Mr. Trump and Mr. Perot are very different.  Mr. Trump has most certainly pointed out that we need to do things differently and we need to change a lot of the way we work as a country.  There is no doubt about that.  I even at one point, thought some of the same things he did.  Maybe a wall to keep out the ones who are trying to come here illegally would have been a great idea, however, when thinking about practicality, it’s not going to work.  But, once the election really started to get under way, it seemed he was trying to divide us even more then we are.  I have agree with him in that the media does so much to fuel the fire of division that we have in our country right now, but in listening to him speak, I am more and more frightened by what he says.

I don’t say these things to get you all up on a high horse about what Hilary has done, I’m not her promoter, but the fact remains that I do not want this man to be the actual representation of our country.  He doesn’t stand for what I stand for.  I don’t want more hate and more divides, I want shit to get fixed, like everyone else does.  There is a lot at stake in this election.  If you really want to change things, start by realizing that 82% of congress is up for reelection… This is where the change needs to happen.  Look to the ones who propose the bills that get signed into laws, look at the ones who have voted the opposite way of your ideas on said bills.  Changes must happen, but remember, for those who say your vote doesn’t count, the 30% of us who do vote, get to make all the decisions.

Vote.  It makes a difference!

Thoughts in my head

My  good friends,

I am writing to you today in light of the coming election.  First and foremost, I am not going change your mind if you have made it up completely about who you think should be elected.  We all feel very differently about it, and that's so wonderful, considering that we live in this country to begin with.

I have been thinking about some of the people in the country who have said that if the Donald is elected, they will be moving out of the county.  And this got me to thinking about what our country stands for and how this should be not be taken lightly.  I stated to think about what kind of rights do we as Americans enjoy everyday that other countries don't have.  In fact, just the other night, while having my family dinner, I was asked by my daughter what was I thinking about, and this is what was on my mind.

In our country, we have certain rights that are guaranteed to us, under our Constitution and Bill of rights.  Like, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  The right to free speech, freedom of the press, freedom to worship whichever deity that I want to.  I don't have to a member to the church of the country if I don't believe what they are putting out.  I can print whatever I feel like, within reason, I can report all sorts of news.  I can have a firearm if I want to.  I may not be able to have open carry laws in all states, but I own one.  I can take up arms against my oppressors.  I have the right to form a militia, (not that I see that happening but, the option is always there) or a members only club.  As a woman in this country, I have so many more rights than 100 years ago.  I can vote, hold a job, make babies if I choose, be the CEO of any company.  I have been asked if I could live at anytime in all of history, when would I choose.  I would say now.  Right now.  There are so many more opportunities for women in this country then at any time, ever, in the world.  We have it so much better with our technology and civilizations.  Our country may have problems, and there are a lot, but, it's not totally a sham.  We have it so good and we don't realize it.  I am sitting in a warmed house, with music playing on my iPod through my Bose speakers, with a TV in front of me, (it's not on) a TV upstairs in my room (that's not on either) and food in my cooled refrigerator.  Holy shit, I'm doing better than 70% of the world.  And the world has more than 7 billion people in it.  So, you do the math, it's a lot.

We have so much that we can do because of our form of government.  Any natural born citizen over the age of 35 can run for the highest office in the country.  There are certain things to be considered when running of course, but, we have that option.  There is a lot to be said about moving out of the country when the election is over... let's really think about this.

Moving to Canada would be lovely I think.  If I was able to move to one of the few places that I am familiar with.  And I hear it's cold, so I'm not sure about that one.  I have become somewhat of a wiener in my old age.  What about moving instead to Mexico.  Well, it's warmer for sure, and they have tacos, and I'm thinking Baja... Sea of Cortez, and there will be a wall separating me from the Donald.  In all seriousness though, I can't imagine what it would be like to move out of my country and say I can't be apart of this anymore.  It makes me so nervous to think of The Donald as the top representation of the country.  Not everyone in this country is like him and when he talks, it's just bad.  People are willing to accept their life somewhere else.  The language could be different, because, let's face if, even in this country, people have different dialects.  Look at South Carolina.  And Boston.  But more than just that, it's the culture and the government and the laws are different everywhere you go.  There are governments that are more corrupt than ours.  There are governments that openly discriminate against people.  There are places that will have you beaten for spitting on the ground.  There is many things that are different and people are willing to leave here for the that because of the leader of the country.  Am I the only one who sees this is more of a problem than what is being showed?

I have spoken with many people who are supporters of the Donald and like I said before, it's not about getting you to change your mind, it's already made up, but, if you could at least open your mind to maybe the possibility that he may say a lot of things to get you going, but, it's a very dangerous thing for him to come this close to it.  He is a danger to our way of life by way of not having a good temperament and having the ability to  deploy nuclear weapons when he wants to tell leaders of the rest of the world to fuck off.  He views Putin as a good guy, yet seems pretty uneducated as to the history and past of the Russian President.  He had stated that Saddam Hussein was also, a man to be admired.  He's made shitty jokes and taken cheap shots at the Veterans of America.  How the lot of them think he's good for our country escapes my mind.  He said that if you were a POW, you must be an idiot, because you were caught.  How does go unnoticed?  How is it that there are news agencies that have to run a fact check when he's talking to see if he's just making shit up, which, after going through the transcripts of Monday's debate, there was a lot of it.  And what the hell is up with his fucking hair?  Ewwwww.... Just completely gross! And he uses the fact that he's rich to throw around like he's some sort of cool guy because he has a lot of money.  I would rather not have money than have to be around him.  He's got money so he must be smart or able to run a country.... When he's gone bankrupt as much as the Donald, I don't see him as being able to run a company let alone a country.

And what really scares me, is not so much the Donald, it's his supports.  As I have said before, I have lots of friends who are supports of the Donald, and they will not change their mind.  They cannot grasp the thought of that woman who killed four people and deleted emails running the country.  I happen to think differently, another reason why I like where I'm at... I can have my own opinion.  And I can talk about it if I feel like it... which I do.

I guess since there are so many that don't want to talk about, I feel like it's something that we need to really look at.  It is a huge thing.  This is a turning point for our country, and we have the opportunity to change things.  I am not saying that you should vote for Hilary, there is of course Gary Johnson, but, he is someone that I will have to research more before I make my choice... but, I can tell you, it won't be the Donald that gets my vote.  Think about it friends, think about it.

Episode IV: Laying the ground work

My friends......

In the society that I currently live in, the word liberal is tossed around with the likes of very bad things and people (think Hilter and the Nazi party).  I hear what a bad thing it is to be liberal, and that the liberals are taking over our country.  So for this very reason, I decided to start a new project with this title.  Which meant I had to start with the actual definition of the word liberal, as well as the origin.  I used the Oxford dictionary because, well, I like it.  It's a good basis for all of English that we use, therefore, I will use it for all definitions.

In essence, this started on a whim this morning.  I was sitting on my new couch this morning (awesome thrift store find) and I watched a small clip of something.  Due to the political climate this year, I have seen many things on many of the candidates.  I will tell you, I am standing behind Bernie and I think everyone should.. But you're also entitled to your own opinion (in this blog, it's all my opinion).  The clip was talking about how the republican party was shocked that The Donald could say something derogatory about Ted Cruz's wife.  The actual clip was on the many different republican syndicated news people saying anything and everything vile about the First Lady and her two young daughters.  It completely disgusted me to hear how they can be so incredible hypocritical in their words.  Not only that, they things they were saying was downright deplorable, especially when you see the men who are speaking.

This got me to think about these men.  Who are these people?  The ones who have not been a politician yet seem to know everything about politics, the ones who have not served in the military, yet seem to know all the workings of our military, the ones who say they are upholders of the Constitution, yet seem to only pick and chose which ones fit their ideas and the ones that effect them.  The ones who seem to know and expect all women to act and behave a certain way, even though, none of them are women.  The overweight, middle aged, rich, white, land owning, conservative males.  So for them, to go on camera and say how fat the First Lady is, I am going to call you on that sir!  You have no right to talk with the body that you have.  It's bad enough the women all over the world are obsessed with a body they will likely not ever really have without some serious side effects, but, for your opinion to be so in line with that, it's any wonder you stay with women at all.  From what I have gathered about any of you, and the views you have of women, we might as well be property again.  What makes them able to spout their hate rhetoric to so many people?  I can spout just as much hate and be just as opinionated as they are.  I need my own radio show.  So with this in mind, let me start with the actual correct dictionary definition of liberal as set forth in the Oxford Dictionary:

liberal

Pronunciation: /ˈlib(ə)rəl   adjective

Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values
1.1 Favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms
1.2 (In a political context) favoring maximum individual liberty in political and social reform
1.3 (Liberal) Of or characteristic of Liberals or a Liberal Party.
2 [attributive] (Of education) concerned mainly with broadening a person’s general knowledge and experience, rather than with technical or professional training
3 (Especially of an interpretation of a law) broadly construed or understood; not strictly literal or exact

Origin

Middle English: via Old French from Latin liberalis, from liber 'free (man)'. The original sense was 'suitable for a free man', hence 'suitable for a gentleman' (one not tied to a trade), surviving in liberal arts. Another early sense, 'generous' (sense 4 of the adjective), gave rise to an obsolete meaning 'free from restraint', leading to sense 1 of the adjective (late 18th century).

After looking over the definition of the word liberal, it doesn't seem to me that liberal would really be such a bad thing.  There are parts of it that I could see why there are so many who think this word is a bad one, and to be liberal means that you are some sort of a bad person.  But in my mind, to be liberal means that I am opening myself up to a better possibility.  Not that everyone who is liberal will completely discard all values, just some that no longer serve us in our current society.

For this blog, I will discuss politics and religion for the most part as well as society hot topics and the likes of that.  There will be a lot more research that goes into this than my other blog because, if I am going to form an opinion of things, I want to have some knowledge on the subject and not be just completely random things that come across my mind.  To begin with, I am going to tackle things that the youth of this country really are clueless about: The Constitution and it's Amendments and what those mean to us, as well as how they apply to us today as liberals.  For that reason, it will be a slow process, examining each on its own and then as a whole.  We are in for a 29 week series.  So, with that in mind, welcome, to The Galactic Liberal Media.  Stay tuned next week.
